This morning’s fire started inside a temporary fence factory on Foleys Road, Derrimut, just before 9am
Firefighters arrived on scene to find the factory completely on fire, with flames shooting high into the air.
Fortunately, the 30 people who were inside the building when the fire started managed to evacuate safely.
The fire sent thick plumes of black smoke through western Melbourne as it raged for nearly two and a half hours until it was brought under control just before 11:30am.
The factory collapsed in on itself in the middle of the fire.
Some 60 firefighters remained on the scene to deal with the wreckage and prevent the fire from reigniting.
A community advisory has been issued for surrounding smoke and people are asked to avoid using Foleys Rd and Mt Derrimut Rd.
EPA officials are working with firefighters to prevent firewater from spilling into nearby Cherry Creek.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
