Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is in Hobart to promote the government’s public housing policy.
She said many women fleeing domestic violence often end up homeless.
“They will have to sleep in their car, in a park or at a friend’s house,” he said.
“Or worse yet, they will have to return to a home that is simply not safe.”
He spoke of his own experience with government housing.
“I grew up in public housing. I had the security of a roof over my head,” he said.
“It was the home where my mother was born and where she lived all her 65 years.”
Tasmania is the last state he has visited in his time as Prime Minister.
