UK asylum plan will save government ‘billions’ if successful

Former UK Home Secretary Ann Widdecombe says that if Rwanda’s migration policy is successful, the country will save “millions, indeed billions of pounds”.

The first planned flight to take asylum seekers from the UK to Rwanda was canceled following an intervention by the European Court of Human Rights.

“The government has been candid throughout and has said that it expected legal challenges, it expected trouble, it didn’t expect an easy application of this policy,” he told Sky News Australia presenter Piers Morgan.

“But it has to continue and it has to be determined.”
