Toronto Maple Leafs once again fail to close a series

Is there anything worse than being a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Once again, the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing a Game 7 in the First Round, however this year is different.

This year, for the first time since 2004, they can play the game at home in front of a sold-out building. When the Leafs had home-field advantage last year, the arena was empty except for 500 lucky fans, but this season, it’s going to be great on Saturday night.

The craziest thing about Game 6 was the fact that Toronto played an amazing game. John Tavares was buzzing, Auston Matthews scored away from home and Jack Campbell was solid. However, as they do every season, they choked out in the third period and ultimately lost in overtime.

Being a Leafs fan is the most frustrating thing in the world.

They played very well and it still wasn’t enough. The Tampa Bay Lightning showed why they are the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions and made me hate this team more than anyone can hate.

For whatever reason, we stick with this team through thick and thin, even though we continually get punched in the face every time we think something good is going to happen.

Toronto Maple Leafs likely to lose Game 7 at home

I hope I’m wrong, but at this point, how can I expect another result? How am I supposed to realistically think the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to win a Game 7?

They had a 3-2 lead in the third period of Game 6 and couldn’t do it. They had the opportunity to exorcise their demons in the most important moment of their lives and they discarded it.

I really want to support this team and I want them to be successful more than anything in the world, but how am I supposed to have faith that it’s going to happen? Why am I, like millions of other Leafs fans, spending so much stupid time on this team thinking the outcome is going to change?

If they win on Saturday night, I’ll happily eat my words, but this pathetic franchise makes it very difficult to remain a fan.

Every year is the same result.

Even though they have been outscoring the Tampa Bay Lightning for most of this series, it still hasn’t been enough to earn them four wins. This team is cursed and there is no other way to avoid it.

It has been 18 years since the Toronto Maple Leafs won a playoff series. Please find an extra team and do something, because if they lose again, I don’t know if I can take it anymore.
