South African firm Tiger Brands has appointed former Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Polycarp Igathe as chief growth officer for all its markets effective December 1.

Mr Igathe, who previously served as chief commercial officer at Equity Bank before stepping down to try his hand at politics, will be tasked with creating new markets and expanding the business in Africa.

Mr. Igathe served as Managing Director (MD) of the East Africa division of the company before leaving to join Vivo Energy, the British downstream oil company that runs Shell.

“Igathe brings strong commercial capabilities to Tiger Brands, as well as marketing, sales, strategy and business leadership experience through multi-geographic leadership roles in Africa,” said Tiger Brands.

A seasoned executive, Igathe has previously held executive positions at leading brands such as Coca-Cola, Kenya Breweries, Haco Industries, where he served as MD for 10 years.

“I look forward to Polycarp’s diverse capabilities and knowledge of the continent, which will drive the execution of our ambitious growth strategy for the rest of Africa, and its wider contribution to the development and execution of Tiger Brands’ business strategy. “said Noel Doyle, CEO of Tiger Brands.

Igathe holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi.
