Tourism and Transport Forum chief executive Margy Osmond says it’s important the cruise industry continues to operate because “it’s a five billion dollar a year industry” and “Australians love cruising”.
“The bottom line here is that people have now been given the choice to sail, knowing that what is going to happen on board that ship has been done in conjunction with health authorities,” he told Sky News presenter Chris Smith. .
“That’s the most important part of this.”
Ms Osmond said the other critical part is getting the boats out again and “circling the Australian coast”.
“For so many regional communities, these ships represent a huge revenue boost in their tourism revenue.”
