Star builder Graya acquires Gold Coast prime site after year-long search

The Burleigh Heads estate purchased by Graya founder Rob Gray and his wife Meghan.

Celebrity builders Graya will be undertaking their first project on the Gold Coast after securing a prime site in Burleigh Heads that also caught the eye of AFL WAG royalty Bec Judd.

The $2.78 million beachside acquisition marks a departure from the imposing inner-city abodes for which the luxury construction company founded by Brisbane brothers Rob and Andrew Gray is famous.

A four-bedroom ocean-view home that currently sits on the 531-square-meter block will be replaced with a state-of-the-art vacation home for Rob and his wife, Meghan, who are expecting their first child in August.

Gray said the house would echo the company’s cutting-edge design principles, but was ultimately inspired by childhood memories.

“Our family has vacationed in Rainbow Bay and Coolangatta all our lives,” Gray said.

“We have spent a lot of time on the Gold Coast and that has been the destiny of our family; now, with my brother and I starting our own families, we wanted to create our own place there.”

Celebrities who share Mr. Gray’s soft spot for the Gold Coast include Rebecca ‘Bec’ Judd, business owner and wife of great AFL retiree Chris Judd, who inquired about the same Burleigh property when she visited the area in January.

Mr. Gray revealed that the Judds had already consulted with Graya about helping make dreams come true of creating their own vacation spot along the coveted southern stretch of the coast.

Bec Judd also wants to buy in Burleigh

Graya’s purchase marks the end of a year-long search for the perfect beachside block. The design is yet to be finalized, but it will draw inspiration from Larc, his $8 million Hamilton project on a hillside site with similar attributes to the Burleigh block.

“Burleigh Heads is the hottest real estate market in Queensland at the moment, and with no waterfront homes in Burleigh and only a few sites on the ridge, it was an easy decision to buy, as the hill is the obviously nice place to be.” “. said Mr Gray.

He said Meghan would be actively involved in the design, following their close collaboration on Arcos, her palatial family home in Paddington built in 2020.

“We’ll try to do something different again,” Gray said.

“We want it to be a coastal environment, of course. It’s a beach house, so we definitely want to take it in that direction and create a design that’s very user-friendly.”

Mr. Gray will compete for a small renovation so the family can enjoy stays here while the big plans are finalized.

Sotheby’s International agent Scott Keatley said the Burleigh property had been on the market for about four months, despite its enviable location just minutes from the beach and the popular cafes and boutiques of James St.

“We had a lot of inquiries from Sydney and Melbourne, but a lot of people saw it as a challenge,” Keatley said.

“It’s a very challenging site to get machinery in and out of, and in particular for cranes, and that was really the problem.

“The structure of the house was really good and it has spectacular views, all facing northeast.

“It’s just a short walk into town, at the point of the hill where it’s not too steep, and it’s surrounded by greenery, so you feel like you could be anywhere,” he said.

Graya has built more than 50 luxury homes, including for Brisbane Broncos player Darius Boyd, former Wallabies captain Stephen Moore, and model Erin McNaught and her rapper husband Example.
