A school bus with children on board was pulled over for speeding northwest of Ottawa on Tuesday and its driver is facing stunt driving charges, police say.
Upper Ottawa Valley OPP said in a news release that an officer caught the driver of the bus traveling at 66 mph in a 37 mph zone around 4:30 p.m. on Micksburg Road in Laurentian Valley Township, Ontario.
The bus has been impounded for 14 days and its 54-year-old driver has been charged with driving a motor vehicle and accelerating between 1 and 49 km/h above the limit established in the Road Traffic Law.
His license has also been suspended for 30 days.
“Alternative transportation for students has been arranged,” OPP said in an email on Wednesday.
Police said one way speeding becomes stunt driving is when a driver exceeds a speed limit of 80 km/h or less by more than 40 km/h.
