Pravaig Launches Electric SUV Defy at Rs 39.5 Lakh; Deliveries Will Begin Next Year

Electric mobility startup Pravaig Dynamics on Friday launched the Defy sports car priced at Rs 39.5 lakh (ex-showroom) to compete with the likes of Audi e-tron and Mercedes Benz EQC.

The Bengaluru-based company has started bookings for the model and deliveries are expected to start from the third quarter of next year.

The company aims to produce 10 lakh units by 2028 and cater to both domestic and international markets.

“First we will try to address the domestic market and look at exports in 2024,” Pravaig Chief Strategy Officer Ram Divedi told PTI in an interaction.

He added that in the long term, 70% of production will go to foreign markets.

Divedi said Defy is more affordable than other competing products in the market. He added that the SUV can travel about 500 km and has 402 horsepower.

Pravaig, which has a manufacturing plant in Bengaluru, plans to start production with a few thousand units and gradually expand as demand increases.

Divedi said the company already produces 6,000 battery packs for cars a year at the plant.

When asked about future product plans, he mentioned that the company is working on two more products for next year.

On the investment so far in the development of the model, Divedi did not provide an exact capital figure, but added that its development program remains cost-effective compared to the competition.

He noted that the company has so far placed about 800 orders for Defy.

Pravaig plans to sell most of the cars online and may have some experience centers for customers at a later stage, Divedi said.

The company has tied up with various partners across the country to fulfill service and other requirements.

The company also showcased Veer, an off-road military version of the SUV.
