Poland will support Sweden and Finland before NATO

Poland will come to the aid of Sweden and Finland in case they are attacked before gaining NATO membership, says Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

“I consider the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO to be an important sign of the strengthening of security in Europe,” he told a conference on Thursday.

“I want to make it clear that in the event of an attack on Sweden or Finland during their accession (process), Poland will come to their aid.”

Finland and Sweden formally applied to join the NATO alliance on Wednesday, a decision prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and setting in motion an accession process expected to take only a few weeks.
