Nintendo revealed today that the latest Pokemon games, Scarlet and Violet, have collectively sold 10 million units in their first three days on the market. The publisher says this is the highest sales level for any game on any Nintendo platform. The title has received some criticism for its presentation, but gamers are buying it.

According to Nintendo, this number includes both physical and digital versions. Usually Nintendo’s product sales report does not include digital sales. Just for comparison, PlayStation announced today that God of War Ragnarok, its latest first-party game, sold 5.1 million copies in its first week. It is the fastest-selling PlayStation first-party title of all time, and accounts for over half of the new Pokemon titles.

Scarlet and Violet received criticism from gamers for its poor graphics and well-documented bugs. Some have tried to get money back into the game, with some apparent success. However, it may not have a major impact on such large sales numbers.

Sales of new Pokemon are impressive, but not particularly surprising. The series has historically sold well: Pokémon Legends: Arceus topped the sales charts despite launching on January 28th. Nintendo also announced that the franchise sold more than 30 million copies in the 12 months ending March 2022, factoring in both Arceus and Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
