In a country where cricketers are adored by all, it is not surprising that player comparisons get mixed up when one performs relatively better than the other. When Shubman Gill scored a neat wicket against Matt Henry, out of nowhere fans compared him to the widely criticized KL Rahul.

Despite losing the toss in the opening ODI series at Eden Park, India got off to a steady start scoring 33 in nine overs without losing a wicket. Up to this point, Shubman Gill and the stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan batted without taking any risks, hitting 12 off 21 balls and 20 off 33 balls respectively.

In game 10, Gill finally broke the shackles Matt Henry. The third ball of the latter was short and Gill, after waiting for it, leaned back and played a textbook uppercut to put him to sleep first. The ball was perfectly timed by the Indian opener and eventually he went all the way for half a dozen runs.

After watching him play the top-pair with such aplomb, the Twitterati were all praises for Gill, who recently came into India’s T20 mix at the start of the tour despite his debut being yet to come. Keeping this fact in mind, fans expressed their opinion to replace Gill with a long run in the shortest format immediately. KL Rahulwho have not enjoyed their best form of late especially in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia.

This is sweet to watch!
