NT Police investigate after a man was killed in a fatal single-vehicle crash in Rakula, west of Litchfield National Park

Police are investigating the death of a man in a car crash in a remote part of the Top End on Saturday night.

In a statement released this afternoon, NT Police said officers had been called to the accident on Marindja Road in Rakula, near Litchfield National Park, at around 11:30 p.m.

NT Police and St John’s Ambulance attended, but a passenger in the vehicle died at the scene.

“A utility vehicle, carrying seven people, is believed to have been traveling on Marindja Road, when a passenger in the tray fell out,” the statement said.

“Passengers transported the victim out of the area until they were able to contact the phone reception on Litchfield Park Road.”

The NT Police Major Accident Unit is investigating the incident.

NT Police reported that the 35-year-old driver of the vehicle underwent a breathalyzer test and tested positive for alcohol.

He is expected to be charged later today.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
