Jerrod Carmichael talks about life since coming out during HBO special

Jerrod Carmichael was in Jimmy Kimmel Live!, on Thursday, where he discussed how his life has changed since recently coming out as gay. The comedian publicly revealed that he was gay during his HBO special Rothanielwhich premiered last month.

“I think I feel freer,” Carmichael said. “After you come out, you realize that, like, I realize that a lot of people are in the closet for something. Through the process. It is inhibitory. I find that I take better photos since coming out because I’m not worried about looking gay. Wasn’t he smiling because smiling is gay? So dumb.”

Carmichael has been extremely busy since he came out. he was the host saturday night live, last month. He also made his directorial debut in On the count of threewhich is what he was promoting on the late night show.

While he is “freer” as a result of living openly, Carmichael admitted that living an honest life is still very new to him.

“A lie begets more lies and it’s all you can think about, at least me, it’s all I can think about, the things I don’t say,” Carmichael explained. “It’s like being in, you know, AA or something. Like, one day at a time. Like, I didn’t lie today. I didn’t lie today, it’s fine.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs Monday through Friday at 11:35 p.m. ABC.
