The World Cup is well and truly underway. After Saudi Arabia’s shock win against Argentina. It was another shock win at the World Cup as Japan beat Germany 2-1 in an incredible game.

“Manchester City” star Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 33rd minute after a clumsy foul by Japanese goalkeeper Shuichi Gonda. The Germans scored a second after Kai Havertz put the ball in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside. The second half started and the Germans continued to dominate with goalkeeper Gonda making some solid saves.

However, it was all blown up by right-back Hiroki Sakai in the 73rd minute after Junya Ito’s shot was superbly saved by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. However, the pressure began to mount and in the 75th minute Ritsu Doan managed to get behind another Manuel Neuer save. The Japanese fans went crazy raising the atmosphere in the stadium and then the unthinkable happened.

A beautiful ball by Ko Itakura was brought down flawlessly by Takuma Asano, who before diving forward, slotted the ball past Manuel Neuer into the roof of the net. The stadium exploded a second time. The commentators fell silent. People all over the world are in a state of shock.

Then the final whistle blew and Germany lost the opening game of the World Cup for only the second time in their history. Hans Flick has a big job with Germany next up against Spain and it’s a game they need to win. Japan is celebrating. Stay tuned and stay updated as Germany mourns, no matter what.
