The award ceremony and prizes were sponsored by the Spanish Tourist Office (Ireland) and the Gran Canaria Tourist Board.

A Travel Extra spokesperson said that despite reduced travel opportunities in 2021, there were a significant number of submissions, showing the creativity and continued innovation of travel and tourism journalism in Ireland.

The overall Travel Writer of the Year award went to Irish freelance contributor Catherine Murphy, who also won the ‘Best Adventure & Ski’ category.
