Rutherford basketball player Antonio Morgan was voted athlete of the week by this week’s News Herald for the week of January 3-8.
The main guard received 83.02% of the votes cast by News Herald readers, beating other candidates such as Deondrian Washington of Bay High School (13.12%), Alex Steen of Arnold High School (2.17 %), Lexy Griffin of Arnold High School (1.04%), Nick Hejke of Mosley High School (0.23%), Romero Black of Rutherford High School (0.19%), Valarie Solorio (0.10% ), David Mercado of North Bay Haven (0.06%) and Jessy Langston of Mosley High School (0.06%).
Morgan scored 27 points in each of Rutherford’s two games last week, a 60-45 win over Arnold and a 71-60 loss to Bay High. Morgan scored 18 of his 27 points against the Tornadoes in the fourth quarter.

Winning MVP at the YBOA National Championship Game.
How/When did you start practicing your sport?
I started playing in CM2 after a coach told me to try.

Perform in front of large crowds and fan support.

Michael Jordan is my favorite athlete. I admire him for his willingness to put his team on his back.
