The “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer told fans Thursday night that she was heading to the hospital for help after sharing a series of disturbing Twitter messages that she was planning to kill herself.
“I have decided to follow my son. It is no use living without him. Everything I touch, I ruin him. I only stayed for him. And now he is gone,” she said. written on an unverified Twitter account linked to his official account.
O’Connor – who has spoken openly about her own mental struggles and suicidal thoughts in the past – went on to say that she felt “lost” and blamed herself for the death of her teenage son.
The mother-of-four followed the thread an hour later, apologizing for her alarming messages and reassuring fans that she was seeking medical attention.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m now with cops on my way to the hospital. I’m sorry I upset everyone,” she posted, adding: “I I’m lost without my kid and I hate myself. The hospital will help for a while. But I’m going to find Shane. It’s just a delay.
Representatives for O’Connor declined to comment on the matter to CNN.
Shane O’Connor’s body was discovered on Jan. 7, two days after his disappearance, the singer’s management company confirmed to CNN on Saturday.
O’Connor announced his death on Twitter, claiming that his “beautiful” son “had decided to end his earthly fight.”
“Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life, has decided to end his earthly fight today and is now with God,” she wrote. “May he rest in peace and let no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”
