Everyone knows things get crazy in the delivery room when a baby is on the way. Throw in a cesarean and suddenly there’s a lot more to think about. During a appearance On “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” “Yellowjackets” star Christina Ricci spoke about how the chaos of the moment caused her husband to choose their daughter’s name.
Ricci and her husband Mark Hampton tied the knot in October 2021 and their baby girl was born a few weeks later on December 8. Ricci told Ellen that she and Hampton had already discussed baby names before the birth and that they had chosen Cleo.
As Ricci prepared for the operation, staff told the couple they needed to think about the birth certificate. Although they chose Cleo, Ricci told Ellen that Hampton wanted further clarification. “My husband said to me, ‘Well, we’re going to give it a full name, aren’t we? And then the nickname is Cleo.
Christina Ricci’s husband jumped in and announced his baby’s name
With Ricci about to give birth to her daughter, she wasn’t thinking too much about Hampton’s question. He had previously expressed his interest in the name Cleopatra, but Ricci always envisioned her full name as Cleo. “I just thought [her full name] would be Cléo, ”she said. “I was like ‘well, we’ll find that out later,’ but he figured it out while I was recovering.”
It wasn’t until after the birth of their daughter that Ricci learned that her husband not only chose the name, but posted it on Instagram: Cleopatra Ricci Hampton.
“He was so excited he put it on Instagram. And then the media picked it up. So I was like, “I guess her name is Cleopatra,” Ricci recalls.
Ricci quickly accepted the name. “Cleopatra is good. It’s a queen’s name.
Christina Ricci’s son Freddie wants to become an actor
Ricci is also the mother of 7-year-old Freddie Heerdegen, whom she shares with her ex-husband James Heerdegen. She told Ellen that Freddie had quickly adjusted to life with her new brother. “He’s awesome, he loves being a big brother so much. He kisses her all the time, “she said.
Little Freddie also wants to be an actor like his famous mom. Ricci’s career began at the age of seven, but she hopes he takes his time before throwing his hat on Hollywood craziness. “He wants to be an actor, but I told him he should spend all this time honing his craft, so when he’s 18 or 23 or whatever, he’s already spent all of his time getting really good.”
Ricci hid her pregnancy while filming “Yellowjackets”
Ricci currently stars in the hit Showtime series “Yellowjackets” as the adult version of Distressed Misty. Ricci filmed the first season while pregnant with baby Cleo.
“It was a little tough,” she said. “I tried not to show myself for a very long time. So I deliberately wore a lot of jackets. I was tired, I was hungry. I got a little vicious… and no one knew it was because I was pregnant. I’d have these mini-freak-outs.
“Yellowjackets” has been renewed for a second season ahead of the Season 1 finale.
