Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin to hire younger brother as co-defensive coordinator, sources say

Ole coach Miss Lane Kiffin is bringing in her younger brother Chris to join the Rebels as co-defensive coordinator, sources confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.

Chris Kiffin, who is expected to coach linebackers, will team up with co-coordinator Chris Partridge to lead the defense. Partridge has been on the Rebels’ staff for the past two seasons and has been a safety coach.

DJ Durkin, who has called the parts for defense the past two seasons, left earlier this month to become defensive coordinator at Texas A&M.

Chris Kiffin was previously the defensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns. He and Lane Kiffin worked together at Florida Atlantic in 2017, when Chris was defensive coordinator for the Owls’ Conference USA championship team, and at USC in 2010, when Chris was defensive administrative assistant.

This will be Chris Kiffin’s second stint at Ole Miss. He was part of the Hugh Freeze team from 2012 to 2016.

RebelGrove.com was the first to report Kiffin’s agreement to return to Ole Miss.

Additionally, Lane Kiffin hired Marquel Blackwell of Houston to be the Rebels running back coach and Nick Savage, previously in Florida, to be the head strength and conditioning coach.

Earlier, Kiffin hired Charlie Weis Jr. from South Florida to be the offensive coordinator. Weis replaced Jeff Lebby, who left to serve as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator.

The Rebels finished 10-3 in Kiffin’s second season at Oxford. It was the first 10-game regular season in school history.
