FX Taps Domhnall Gleeson for ‘The Patient’ Limited Series – The Hollywood Reporter

FX completes the cast of its limited series The patient.

Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Run) will star alongside Steve Carell in the half-hour series of Americans duo of Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields. The patient, who starts production this week, also added Linda Emond (Estate, Lodge 49), Laura Niemi (It’s us) and Andrew Leeds (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) as a whole.

In addition, the series added Americans alum Chris Long as executive producer and director of the first two episodes. Kevin Bray (Insecurity, Americans) and Gwyneth Horder-Payton (Pose, Pam & Tommy) will also direct episodes.

Ordered in series in October, The patient stars Carell as Alexander Strauss, a psychotherapist who finds himself trapped by a serial killer (Gleeson) with an unusual request: to curb his murderous urges. Uncompressing this man’s mind while facing the waves of his own pent-up problems creates a journey for Alexander who is perhaps as treacherous as his captivity.

The 10-episode series comes from FX Productions. Fields and Weisberg write and produce with Carell, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu and Long.

Gleeson drops out of Channel 4 / Prime Video comedy Franck from Ireland, which he also co-created with his brother Brian Gleeson and Michael Moloney. He’ll be next in HBO’s Watergate series The plumbers of the White House, playing Nixon’s White House lawyer, John Dean. It is replaced by Paradigm and The Agency.

Emond is replaced by CAA; Niemi by Stride Management and HRI Talent; Leeds by CAA and Management 360; Long by WME and Rain Management; Bray by CAA, 3 Arts and Goodman Genow; and Horder-Payton by Artists First.
