Domhnall Gleeson To Star In FX Series – Deadline

Domhnall Gleeson has been named co-lead opposite Steve Carell in The patient, the 10-episode, half-hour limited series of FX from Americans creative duo Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, and FX Productions.

Linda Emond (Succession, The Golden Age), Laura Niemi (This is us, justified) and Andrew Leeds (The Dropout, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist).

Co-written by Fields and Weisberg, in The Patient, a psychotherapist (Carell) finds himself trapped by a serial killer (Gleeson) with an unusual request: to curb his murderous urges. But relaxing this man’s mind while facing the waves of his own pent-up turmoil creates a journey perhaps as treacherous as his captivity.

Chris Long (Americans, Suspicion) has signed on as executive producer and will direct the first two episodes of the series, which begins production this week. Kevin Bray (Succession, Insecurity, Americans, Running) and Gwyneth Horder-Payton (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Pose, Pam & Tommy) will also direct the series.

Fields and Weisberg are the executive producers, along with Carell, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu and Long.

Tony-nominated Gleeson recently completed a sold-out series of Enda Walsh’s play Medication at St. Ann’s Warehouse in New York. We will see him next in the HBO limited series of David Mandel Plumbers of the White House as John Dean opposite Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux as Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, respectively. Recently, Gleeson appeared in Franck from Ireland for Channel 4 and Amazon, a series he also co-produced and wrote with Michael Moloney and his brother Brian Gleeson, and in the Peter Rabbit 2: The Fugue sequel facing Rose Byrne and James Corden.

Gleeson is replaced by Paradigm and The Agency.
