Diane Kruger is a great actress, and she crushed him in the bloody epic of Quentin Tarantino Inglorious Basterds.
But as she revealed in a recent episode of the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Kruger was hardly in the movie at all.
“He didn’t want to audition me because he had seen a movie I was in, he didn’t like,” Kruger said after noting that Tarantino auditioned “everyone” for the role. “So he didn’t believe in me from the start. Literally, the only reason he auditioned me was because there was no one left to audition.”
“I had to pay for my own flight from New York to go to Germany because he wouldn’t, even though he’s obviously American, but he wouldn’t see me in the States. So I had to jump through all those hoops it definitely blew my nose up, but I was like, ‘You know what? F — him! I’m just going to do it and prove to him that I can do it.’ “
“And luckily, everything went well.”
Kruger also says that in the end, she thinks Tarantino has learned a “lesson” from the experience. “Sometimes it’s you who put – and I’m sure I’m guilty of that too – you put people in boxes. You think they’re going to be one-sided, and then they’re not at all. . “
