RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Today is going to be a pretty hot day ahead of our chances of snow this weekend, but we’ll get into the forecast in a moment. First, let’s take a look at our top titles!
Colonial Heights goes virtual
Only for the rest of the week. The district is reporting more than 100 positive cases spread across five schools – with more than 550 students missing from class in the middle of the wave.
This is the first time that schools have gone completely virtual there since the start of the pandemic.
Sports will also be canceled during virtual learning days.
Today, the district announced it will provide four-day packed lunches for families from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Colonial Heights Middle School.

COVID outbreak in Henrico
As for Henrico County, he has declared a local emergency as cases in the county continue to rise.
The County Manager for Henrico County says it will help speed up the process of purchasing test kits and other supplies.
The local emergency was approved at the council meeting on Tuesday night after the county reported more than 800 cases per 100,000 residents over the past week – three times the cases reported just two weeks ago.
The statement also follows an increase in absences from schools and county government offices due to COVID-19 cases and quarantines.
I-95 shot update
We now have an update on a Monday night shootout on I-95 that left a 21-year-old dead.
A handful of neighbors who live near the 55 mile post, just north of Temple Avenue, told NBC12 that they heard a “sea of gunfire” around the time.
Investigators say a Ford Focus with three men and another unknown car with at least two people inside continued to drive north.
The driver pulled over to the shoulder of the road near the Ruffin Mill Road and Chesterfield exit and shortly thereafter the other vehicle stopped and a man jumped out and continued pulling on the road. Focus.
Jamari Phillips, 21, was found dead in the backseat of the Focus.
The driver and other passenger of the Ford Focus fled when the shots erupted, and as to the unknown vehicle, the driver took off and the gunman fled.

Start of the General Assembly
The 2022 General Assembly begins today in the state capital, and Republicans now have power in the House of Delegates and the Governor’s Mansion, creating a different landscape than in recent years.
Some burning issues on the table include the legalization of marijuana, education, and election laws.
Governor Northam is due to deliver his final Commonwealth State Address this evening at 7:00 p.m.
Then Glenn Youngkin will be sworn in on Saturday.
Speaking of the inauguration …
In three days, Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin will be sworn in as the 74th Governor of Virginia, and it looks like the Virginia National Guard will play a big role.
More than 200 members of the Virginia National Guard will be on duty, firing a 19-cannon artillery salvo, performing an overflight with F-22 fighter jets, holding the inaugural parade and even playing music.
Road closures will begin across the region at 5 a.m. on Saturday and last until 4 p.m. Towing will be applied.
