The first candidate to replace Dave Gettleman as Giants general manager has emerged.
The Giants submitted an interview request for Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen, who was Brandon Beane’s first big front-office hire when he arrived as general manager in 2017. Schoen was the manager. of the Dolphins’ staff from 2014 to 2017 – working under former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum – after an internal promotion to assistant director of college recruiting.
Schoen’s scouting experience fits the traditional mold of a Giants general manager.
An interesting twist is that Schoen comes out of the Beane tree and Beane is a branch of the Gettleman tree after working as a right-wing adviser with the Panthers. Schoen and Gettleman have never worked together.
While Gettleman’s four-year tenure with the Giants was a disaster (record 19-46) before his forced retirement on Monday, Beane turned the Bills into a Super Bowl contender after failing to win a 1995 playoff game in last season.
The Giants have also reportedly requested talks with Chiefs ‘executive director for player staff Ryan Pole and vice president of titans’ player staff Ryan Cowden and director of team player staff Monti Ossenfort.
