“I just saw him at dinner”

Spain coach Luis Enrique was surprised by Cristiano Ronaldo’s sudden departure from Manchester United and asked both sides to explain the decision.

Manchester United announced on Tuesday (November 22nd) that Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent. Ronaldo also thanked the fans for their support by posting on the social network and announced that it was time to look for a new challenge for him. The decision came just days after the Portuguese’s outburst with Piers Morgan. During the interview, Ronaldo criticized the club for not growing and claimed that Erik ten Haag did not respect him.

Before the opening match of the 2022 World Cup between the Spanish team and Costa Rica, Enrique commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United.

The Spanish footballer admitted that he was surprised by this decision and called on both Ronaldo and United to explain. Former Barcelona manager (via Mundo Deportivo):

“I was surprised that Cristiano left United, now I saw him at dinner and I’m surprised. But I can’t judge because I don’t have all the information. “It would be good if both United and Cristiano said something.”

In his second game at Old Trafford, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner made 54 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 27 goals and providing five assists.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was not surprised by Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from the team

Former United legend Wayne Rooney has admitted that he is sad but not surprised by Ronaldo’s departure from Old Trafford. The former England international claimed Ronaldo would never find his way back to United after his Piers Morgan interview, adding that things are looking up.

Rooney speaking on Sports 18 (via Hindustan Times):

“It’s sad. After the interview and the way he attacked the club, there was no choice. I don’t think there was a choice. It’s a shame because he’s been a servant to Manchester United. Obviously he’s still a very good player. I think he , not the player he is now at 23. That’s probably the best thing… The only goal for Cristiano now will be to focus on the World Cup.”

Cristiano Ronaldo also criticized Rooney during the interview. The former Real Madrid man has claimed that he is jealous of his former United team-mate’s career and how good he looks despite being in his late 30s. Ronaldo branded him a rat and declared that he is not a friend.
