Victoria’s outgoing deputy premier, James Merlino, says he knew in his heart of hearts he had “no fuel in the tank” for another cabinet term when he announced his resignation.
“Someone wise once told me; when you go into politics, think about how you want to leave politics,” Merlino said during a press conference on Friday.
“And that stuck with me… I just knew in my heart, I don’t have fuel in the tank for another term.”
Merlino also said that he spoke from the heart seeing how politics has impacted his family and children.
“It has a disproportionate impact on our partners and our children, and it’s in big and small ways.”
