HYDE-SMITH: Despite our challenges, America remains prosperous and hopeful Mississippi News

Mississippi’s US senator celebrates Thanksgiving and urges everyone to give thanks.

Since our nation’s inception, we as a people have set aside time to give thanks for the many blessings God has bestowed upon us. We surround ourselves with loved ones and take time to reflect on the things that really matter, like our faith, our family, and our nation.

Despite the serious problems facing us, it is worth remembering that our people are prosperous and full of hope. As we come together this year, let’s commit to never taking for granted all that makes America such a great place to live: the promise of freedom, justice, and democracy.

We should not forget that without the brave men and women of our soldiers, we would not have them. Many of them may be spending this Thanksgiving away from their families so that we can be safe in our own homes.

The same goes for our police officers and first responders who will be trying to ensure our safety and health instead of enjoying Thanksgiving dinner with family or a football game with friends.

As we reflect on the many blessings we enjoy, we must also remember our fellow citizens who have to go without, especially in times of economic crisis. We must promise ourselves to help when we can and to share our blessings with our neighbors when they are in need.

It has not been an easy year for many Americans, but I pray for a brighter future for our nation, trusting that God will guide us as we open our hearts to Him.

To all Mississippians, I hope you have a warm, safe and very happy Thanksgiving surrounded by those you love and cherish. God bless you.
