Hotter than afternoon thunderstorms on Sunday

Latest forecast update from Meteorologist Rob Lindenmuth:

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – Today was a hot and humid afternoon, temperatures were close to 90 degrees, officially our first 90 degree day of the year at Albany International Airport, although we missed the record by 2 degrees. . Another hot and humid day with highs again in the 90s is expected tomorrow, however a strong cold front will be approaching which will likely bring strong to severe thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening.

A hot and humid night is expected tonight with temperatures likely to remain in the upper 60s to near 70s with high humidity. We also can’t rule out a stray shower or rumble of thunder overnight as a cluster of storms near Erie PA heads our way. We will start out partly sunny for Sunday with temperatures already hovering around 70 degrees with plenty of humidity.

Once again, a heat advisory is in effect for the Hudson Valley. Heat Index values are expected to reach the mid 90s and above through Sunday afternoon before storms arrive.

A strong cold front will approach in the mid to late afternoon, which is when we can expect strong to severe thunderstorms to emerge and move east across the area.

Storm Prediction Center highlights the area as a slight (2/5) risk of severe weather on Sunday. This means isolated strong to severe storms will be possible. Given the general setup, there will be too much instability for any storm to work. The main threats from this event will be strong damaging winds, heavy rains, which can cause localized flooding, lots of lightning, isolated large hail, and a very low chance of an isolated tornado.

Futurecast shows that even in the early afternoon we should be clear if you have any outdoor plans to do in the morning.

But as that cold front approaches, we expect a line of thunderstorms to develop and move east. I’m thinking of the best time, from west to east it seems to be between 4pm and 9pm

From 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm the storms will track east of the Berkshires, there may be a period of time tomorrow night when the winds become quite gusty behind the front, but they should decrease as the season progresses. evening. It will also be much more comfortable on Sunday night when temperatures drop into the 50s and we clear the air of humidity. Cooler temperatures are expected for Monday with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s with partly sunny skies. Clouds move in Wednesday but we expect to stay dry, there may be a shower on Thursday but there is a better chance of some showers or thunderstorms on Friday with highs for much of next week near or just above “norms” seasonal. ”. Have a great night and make sure you stay fresh tomorrow! -Steal
