Jermaine Defoe says West Ham star and Manchester United target Declan Rice reminds him of Reds icon Michal Carrick.
The captain of the Hammers has gained prominence in recent seasons. He has become a key player for David Moyes’ side and also established himself as one of the top names in the squad at international level with England.
United are looking to add midfield reinforcements and have already identified the 23-year-old as a potential option. The West Ham boss has previously claimed the midfielder could cost more than £150m.

“The way he plays and what he (Declan Rice) has, he reminds me a bit of Michael Carrick,” he said speaking to Sky Sports. “The way he handles the ball, what he has more than Carrick is to push forward and get the team forward.
“He said before (that) he’s a big fan of Yaya Toure, you can tell, the way Yaya used to run up the middle. He’s got all the attributes, but you need to add goals, he probably knows that.”
“He’s someone who wants to work on that game, he seems like a great guy and a good character. To me, he has everything to get to the top.”
