Forest fires spread to almost 20,000 hectares in southern France

Forest fires in France’s Gironde region have burned 19,300 hectares and forced the evacuation of 35,000 people as of July 19, according to local authorities. In addition to the fires in Landiras and La Teste-de-Buch, a third fire has broken out in Vensac and has covered 70 hectares according to Gironde officials. Images released by the Gironde Fire Department on July 19 show firefighters battling the blaze and a long line of fire trucks ready to join the fight.
