Ford recalls 2.9 million vehicles that can roll when placed in parking lot – CBS Tampa

MIAMI, Fla. (CW44 News At 10 | CNN) — For recalls 2.9 million vehicles that may not shift into the correct gear and could be moving in an unwanted direction.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has six reports of property damage and four reports of injuries potentially related to the problem.

Among the issues, affected Ford cars and SUVs may not have the transmission in park, even though the position of the shift lever indicates that the vehicle has been shifted into park. Drivers have gotten out of a vehicle only to let it roll, increasing the risk of injury or crashes, according to the safety watchdog.

A similar issue with the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee caused the death of actor Anton Yelchin in 2016. Yelchin’s Jeep rolled across his driveway and pinned him against a brick post outside his Los Angeles home. Fortunately, NHTSA has not reported any deaths caused by this issue with the Ford recall.

The vehicles involved are 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion and 2013-2021 Transit Connect.
