The entire team decided to keep their mouths shut while taking a group photo. a silent but powerful protest against world football’s governing body.
“We wanted to use the captain’s armband to defend the values we hold in the German national team: diversity and mutual respect. Together with other nations, we wanted our voice to be heard,” the German Football Federation said in a statement on Twitter.
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who was at the stadium for the match against Japan, made sure that someone in the stadium was wearing “One Love” armbands. She sported a One Love armband and sat next to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
DFB also said that it is considering taking legal action on the issue.
Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich admitted to the dressing room, adding that the side were “thinking a lot and recording problems”.
