CNN had its smallest weekday audience since the Obama administration on Tuesday, as ratings problems continue to plague the struggling network.
CNN, which was bought by Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this year following the closing of a $43 billion merger, averaged just 393,000 total viewers on June 14. .
The network also had its least-watched day of the week, other than Thanksgiving, during the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. time slot, when CNN’s daytime lineup pulled in just 489,000 average viewers. It was CNN’s worst performance in that category since November 3, 2015.

CNN has earned a reputation for relying on critical coverage of former President Trump to appeal to liberal viewers under former boss Jeff Zucker, but Tuesday’s grim turnout came a day after the Jan. 6 caucus passed Monday. focused on Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election through litigation. CNN removed a staggering 43% of the 694,000 total viewers who tuned in on Monday when there was no audience on Tuesday.
The minimal hearing came as CNN’s newly appointed chairman and CEO Chris Licht, who replaced Zucker, is expected to address staff during an internal staff meeting on Thursday. He previously informed employees that he would “double down on what works well and quickly weed out what doesn’t,” and since then there have been lingering questions about which shows or personalities were scrapped by the new regime.

The long-running morning show “New Day” will be reimagined later this year, Licht announced at Warner Bros. Discovery’s kickoff event last month. No other changes have been announced yet, but Licht has stated that he wants to emphasize news, rather than liberal opinion programming.

Tuesday’s somber performance came 48 hours after CNN’s “Reliable Sources” with Brian Stelter on Sunday had its lowest-rated episode since September 2019 on Sunday with just 580,000 viewers.
By comparison, Fox News averaged 1.6 million total viewers on Tuesday when CNN managed just 393,000.
