Chula Vista Walmart robbery: Suspects on the run

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Chula Vista Police Department detectives are investigating an armed robbery that took place Saturday night, authorities said.

The incident took place around 7:40 pm at the Walmart on North Broadway in Chula Vista when an unidentified individual was seen attempting to steal merchandise, according to CVPD Lt. Lamar Barrett.

When a security guard inside the store attempted to stop the individual, the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife.

The security guard and the suspect made it to the suspect’s car where the security guard noticed a firearm inside the vehicle. At that point, the suspect and two people inside the car fled the scene and headed in the direction of State Route 54 East.

The car involved is described as a brown 2011 Mercedes. License plate information was not immediately available.

It is unknown if the security guard or anyone else was injured in this incident.

The matter remains under investigation by officials with the Chula Vista Police Department.
