BMG acquires the record catalog of German pop rock band Fools Garden

BMG repurchased.

Last week, the music company inked a deal to acquire the rights to Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson’s song.

BMG announced today that it has acquired the record catalog of multi-Platinum German pop-rock group Fools Garden.

The group around the founding members Peter Freudenthaler, Volker Hinkel, Thomas Mangold, Roland Röhl and Ralf Wochele gained worldwide fame after the release of their album in 1995. Meal of the Day and their global hit Lemon tree.

The deal includes recordings of all the band’s albums released between 1991 and 2003. Garden of Fools (1991), once in a blue moon (1993), their #1 breakthrough Meal of the Day (1995), Go and ask Peggy For the main thing (1997), For sale (2000) and 25 miles to Kissimmee (2003).

Lemon tree charted worldwide, including six #1 positions, and won multiple Gold and Platinum awards.



It has been translated into more than 40 languages. Till today, Lemon tree sold six million copies and generated over 340 million global streams.

Most recently, Fools Garden collaborated with German DJ and producer Alle Farben to release a cover of the song.

BMG’s acquisition of the Fools Garden catalog follows a string of recent rights deals for music by artists including Mick Fleetwood, Tina Turner, ZZ Top, Mötley Crüe, John Lee Hooker, Jean-Michel Jarre, Primal Scream and Simple Minds, among others.
