Xtra Time Web Desk: Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik make their debut for India in their first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. The left-arm pacer chose to emulate Shikhar Dhawan’s signature style after the Indian captain handed over his ODI cap to him. Umran Malik received his cap from bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule.
Arshdeep was awarded for his good showing in T20 format for India. He was part of the Indian squad for the recent T20 World Cup in Australia and also played in two T20Is against the BlackCaps.
On the other hand, Umran Malik was handed an ODI cap after making his T20I debut earlier this year. The fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir played just 3 List A matches and bowled 25 overs for 2 wickets. Umran has played 3 T20Is for India so far and has impressed everyone with his pace. Unfortunately, he didn’t get an opportunity in the recently concluded T20I series against the BlackCaps.
With the 50-over World Cup to be held in India next year, the Indian team management is looking at various options and both the young pacers are part of that process.
