Alabama fugitive Casey White and corrections officer Vicky White are in custody Monday following a police chase that ended in Evansville, Indiana, causing their vehicle to crash. Vicky White has been hospitalized after a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to CNN.
Police said law enforcement did not fire. It is unclear how or when Vicky White’s injury occurred.
The couple, who are not related but may have been romantically involved, had been on the run since April 29. According to police, Casey White and Vicky White had been seen at a hotel and a police chase followed.
“This has ended a very long, stressful and challenging week and a half. It ended the way we knew it would. They are in custody,” Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said.
Casey White turned himself in to police after the chase, which ended after the car flipped and crashed.
The manhunt began after Vicky White, who was deputy director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Jail in Florence, Alabama, helped Casey White escape from jail after she accompanied him for a mental health evaluation.
Casey White had faced murder charges. Vicky White was wanted on charges of forgery and identity theft.
