AFL 2022: Smaller soccer crowds here to stay?

The AFL says there are strong reasons behind a 16 per cent drop in crowd attendance this year compared to last season without Covid. VOTE IN OUR POLL.

The league is hopeful that fans will feel increasingly safe returning to public events, but attendance numbers have remained at their lowest levels in more than a decade.

The average attendance per game this year is 31,005, compared to 37,250 in 2019.

It is the lowest figure since the average of 29,103 in 1995, in addition to the last two seasons affected by covid.

The Victorian government’s vaccine mandate means some patrons have been unable to attend the games, and many others are in isolation after contracting covid or becoming close contacts.

Now it’s time to give your opinion on the real reason. Vote in our poll and give your opinion about what keeps you away from football.
