A new ‘anti-democratic alliance’ is emerging

Spiked Online’s Brendan O’Neill says the British should support the government’s policy on Rwanda, whether they agree with it or not. A flight carrying UK asylum seekers to Rwanda was canceled minutes before takeoff after the European Court of Human Rights intervened at the last moment. “We are seeing the rise of a new anti-democratic alliance in the UK,” he said. “It’s made up of: the monarchy with Prince Charles, the clergy with all the unelected bishops in the House of Lords, and now these judges in Strasbourg who are banding together to thwart government policy.” O’Neill added that the policy was “enacted by a government that was voted into power by 14 million people.” “So we’re looking at this new alliance that essentially thinks their moral sentiment should count for more than millions of votes.”
