The fire broke out in a multi-storey building on Thursday night.

10 people died and 9 were injured in a fire that broke out in a residential building in the northwestern region of China.

The fire broke out at 7:50 p.m. (1150 GMT) on Thursday in a high-rise building, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

“Despite emergency help, ten people died,” Xinhua agency writes.

“The injuries suffered by the other nine people are not life-threatening,” he said, adding that an investigation into the fire has been launched.

Fatal fires are common in China due to lax safety standards and corruption among officials tasked with enforcing them.

This week, 38 people died and 2 were injured in a factory fire in the central Chinese city of Anyang.

The authorities blamed “electrical welding, where workers violated safety measures”.
