Pedestrian injured in traffic accident near UC campus

RIVERSIDE, CA (May 9, 2022) – An unidentified individual sustained injuries after a pedestrian collision on Blaine Street Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. along Blaine Street and Iowa Avenue, just a few blocks from the UC Riverside campus.

The pedestrian reportedly crossed the street when a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck approached.

The driver did not have time to avoid the collision and hit the pedestrian.

Officials also stated that they are not sure if the victim crossed at or near a marked crosswalk.

Responding emergency personnel later took the patient to Riverside Community Hospital, in critical condition.

In the meantime, the driver stayed behind and cooperated with authorities. The CHP stated at this time that no charges have been filed and they continue to investigate the incident.

Riverside police are asking anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8723.
